What sets us apart
Our training methodology sets us apart from many others—but what truly makes the difference is our deep love for animals and our unwavering commitment to helping you build a lasting, positive bond with your pet. At the heart of our approach is Emily, our lead trainer, who brings over 20 years of hands-on experience working with dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperaments. From bouncy, high-energy puppies to wise senior dogs proving they can learn new tricks, Emily has seen it all—and helped them all. Her compassionate, science-backed approach focuses on clear communication, mutual trust, and reward-based techniques that make learning enjoyable for both dog and human. She’s passionate about spreading awareness that punishment-based methods are outdated and often damaging, and that positive reinforcement—like clicker training—is not only more effective but also strengthens the connection between you and your dog. Emily is excited to share her knowledge and passion with families who want the best for their pets and believe, like we do, that every dog deserves to be understood, respected, and trained with kindness.

Our Sessions
During a one-hour dog training session focused on clicker training, your dog will learn through positive reinforcement—not punishment. Each session begins with a few minutes of calm interaction to help your dog feel comfortable and focused. Then, using a small handheld clicker that makes a distinct sound, we mark the exact moment your dog performs a desired behavior—like sitting, staying, or walking calmly on a leash—followed immediately by a treat or reward. This method helps dogs quickly understand what actions earn praise, making learning faster, more enjoyable, and more effective. Unlike punishment-based methods, clicker training builds trust, reduces anxiety, and encourages a stronger bond between you and your dog. It’s a fun, humane, and scientifically proven approach to teaching dogs new skills in a positive way.
What is Clicker Training
In Cue & Click Canine Training, we use a clicker to facilitate reinforcement. You might have a few questions about what, why and how we use those during training. I’d love to answer some of those questions.
What is a clicker?
A clicker is a tool that makes a clicking noise. We use the clicker to mark the exact behavior we are wanting to see happen again. So, we cue a behavior we want, we click the behavior the very moment it happens, then we treat the dog to reward the behavior we previously marked.
Why do we use it?
have you ever noticed that sometimes your tone of voice can elicit different responses from people? It can be confusing. Well, a clicker’s tone, volume and intensity never changes. A distinct, discrete sound to let your dog know they did something right and will immediately be rewarded sounds good to me!
How do we use it?
We will cue a behavior from our dog. We will then CLICK! the exact moment our dog performs the behavior we were asking for. We will then pay the dog handsomely for agreeing to do what we asked.
When do we stop using it?
When we have reliably and consistently been using the clicker and the dog is eager and accurately doing what we ask, we can phase it out. Since we cue, click, treat so often, the dog should be extremely excited to work. At that point, the cue becomes the reinforcer. Meaning: the dog wants to elicit a behavior in order to get more food. He is just waiting for you to ask!
